I did not line my pants and am happy with that decision, but adding a lining usually can't hurt. Maybe try silk crepe de chine?

Thanks for the inspiration. I've recently bought a Carolina Herrera brocade fabric form Mood. It's stunning! I'd like to make slim cropped pants, but wasn't sure if I needed any lining for the pants since the fabric is quite thin and doesn't give. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Toby! For work, maybe tone the brocade down to a more muted print in darker colors. Or make a silk pant with a slightly wider leg in a small print. You can still switch to prints even if your workplace is conservative, just as long as you keep the scale of the print on the smaller side and opt for darker colors.

Meg - how about something more 'work friendly' for pants in a print. I can see wearing brocade pants to a party or out for an evening, but not for work. Ideas?

Nice list!!! I especially love the brocade skirt, tie blouse, and wool coat. The latter 2 were already on my Fall sewing list. That brocade skirt is great. I love the idea of using an ultra dramatic fabric for a pencil skirt:)
