A sateen weave imparts a particularly glossy surface, allowing an otherwise dull fabric the opportunity to shine. With only one interlacement between each warp and weft, softness is maximized and amplified through the mercerization process, a process in which the fabric is soaked in a sodium hydroxide bath followed by an acid bath. With excellent drape and natural breathability, cotton sateen is often used in luxury bedding, linens and lingerie.
