    • Stiff, shiny, beautiful garbadine

      November 24, 2015

I absolutely adore the sheen on this fabric, and it's color. It is a bit lighter and more silvery than depicted in photos. I bought navy blue fringe to trim it with and the contrast will be gorgeous. It behaves like a true garbadine - it doesn't press particularly easily and stands away from the body. I tested a swatch in the washer on warm and on cold, and air dried both. The cold wash preserved the original hand and properties of the fabric best, but I actually prefer the way the warm sample turned out - the silk and wool fibers each responded differently to the temperature, resulting in a beautiful texture to the surface of the fabric that now almost makes it look like hammered metal. I plan to pretreat my yardage on the warm cycle, and then dry clean going forward to ensure I don't wear out the fibers with excessive washing.
