2018 Style Trend Forecast

Posted on January 8, 2018 by Molly Hannelly

The start of the new year means new year's resolutions, which means a new you, which means a new wardrobe. There are so many trends and so little wardrobe space, it's hard to figure out which styles are worth while. That's where I come in! After extensive research, I've found the tried and true trends of 2018. Let's take a look at 2018's style forecast.

Excessive Trims

Trims, trims, and more trims! That's what's in store for 2018. Balmain adds fringe to both their blazer and dress, while Celine simply doubles down on the skirt fringe. Marques'Almeida utilizes a large amount of feathered trim for a funky blazer, and Salvatore Ferragamo's entire dress is made from smaller fringe. Nina Ricci layers fringe fantastically to create a garment with drama and depth.

Sheer Evening Wear

Get ready for sheer evening wear this 2018. Dolce & Gabbana and Miu Miu layer sheer dresses over opaque tops for an added pop of color, while Paco Rabanna simply uses several layers of fabric to create depth. Christian Dior's tiered evening dress shows off some stunning shorts, and Pringle of Scotland layers a sheer landscape over the model, merging the two together to show off the beauty of the garment.

Tailored Denim

Get into fitted this denim this 2018! Fendi and Versus Versace both created perfect ensembles for going out, while Tom Ford's denim suit looks professional enough for a business meeting. Mugler's fitted bodice shows off the finesse of tailored denim, and Tibi's matching jacket and trousers pair perfectly with pointed shoes.

Throwback

Some people will tell you the 80's are back, while others swear the 40's are in. The truth? It's all about the throwback this year! Christian Dior's 70's style cabbie hat, paired with a striped top and denim trousers, looks like it was meant for walking down the New York City streets in the 70's, while Gucci and Haney both invoke the 80's flashy styles. Orla Kiely's floral dress is a beautiful example of 40's style, and Molly Goddard's mod dress is an interesting take on 60's style.

The Updated Trench

Trench coats are getting funky this year. Alexander McQueen and Loewe take their pieces apart for garments with a  lot of movement, while Max Mara creates a sheer trench coat. Celine pieces two trench coats together for an interesting overlay, and Valentino creates some interesting shoulder pads with pockets for the girl on the go.
