We live in a world where there’s an info overload of practically everything, including fashion. I have found myself with so many sources and so little time. I can go to the web and social media to find insight to find fashion trends more than ever before; but are fashion blogs a source that people flock to, or is the hype a thing of the past? My mission was to find out if the crickets were chirping when I went to explore fashion blogs and to find stats regarding their popularity.
So, let’s jump right in!
You may find yourself asking something along the lines of, are there blogs dedicated to fashion? But why? With so many options in the world for fashion information, why would people still want to read fashion blogs? A little research showed that fashion blogs banked the #2 spot for the top 5 blog niches on the internet (which pretty much answers our topic question, but stay with me). The data was calculated based on which niches saw the most traffic and brought in the most income. Then I wanted to know why, so I perused comments and forums of fashion blogs to gain more insight. I found that fashion blogs are relatable and full of variety. Our blog includes trend reports, free sewing patterns, and general sewing tips and tricks, but there are tons more options available. It’s rather easy to find people with like styles and body types to those reading vs. the endless Instagram models that all look the same. When people read words written by someone that looks like them and dresses in a way that inspires them, they can connect with the person through the screen while also learning tips and tricks that will help them to shine with style.
Sure, fashion blogs are relatable, but how profitable is the market? I looked into the salary margins for a fashion blogger, and with an average being around 70K, the salary alone is enough to interest me, but there’s more. Being a fashion blogger means you have a creative outlet to share your interest in fashion in any way that your heart desires, be it through style articles, fashion hacks, or making your fashion blog a hybrid between sewing and fashion. For those that enjoy style and fashion, they can choose to use their fashion blog as more of a style diary that they can always cherish and hold onto. The creativity and possibility of making a whopping salary to share something with the world that you love sounds like the dream job to me, and there is a decent portion of people that have taken full advantage of this opportunity.
An initial thought I had when starting this post was that I could go to Instagram or TikTok for fashion inspiration; then, I quickly realized that all of these platforms are interconnected. Fashion bloggers regularly show off their outfits on Instagram and other social media outlets. Being a fashion blogger opens a wide variety of outlets which leads to opportunities like sponsorships and the chance to reach a wide range of people, being flexible with different platforms gives people a choice to pick which viewing experience that they prefer and enjoy.
It’s safe to say that blogs are a part of right now, especially fashion blogs. Acting as a creative outlet that allows a lot of room for growth and opportunities and more than that, they allow people to connect and learn while offering financial gain along the way (which is a nice bonus). For those that love to read and learn more about fashion in any capacity, fashion blogs are considered beneficial and relevant.
Do you still read fashion blogs, and if so, which types are your favorite?

I have always enjoyed reading blogs. There is so much to learn and various ways shown to do, say zippers, that each one shows something slightly different or says it in another way. Other formats are fun and pretty but aren’t quite the same. Videos of bloggers that I read is nice as well.
Thought reading blogs were waning or old school, thankfully at least the sewing and fashion categories are still going strong!
Enjoyed your blog.
This was actually a HUGE question for me. Thank you for researching! xo, Melanin Monroe
I love Dallas, Tx Kileen’s blog CuteandLittle! Great variety of info and even though I’m not petite, the I still find the content applicable to my own style.
I love fashion blogs because there are so many styles of fashion out there. I like to dress according to my mood so my fashion isn’t a one way street for me. So many inspiring fashion blogs now!
What a fantastic concept—sometimes you just need a little blog inspiration when the old idea well runs dry!
very good content regarding fashion thank you
Absolutely obsessed with this season’s bold color trend! There’s something undeniably empowering about stepping out in vibrant hues, and this outfit is the perfect embodiment of that confidence. From the eye-catching cobalt blue blazer to the sunshine yellow accessories, every element screams chic sophistication. Plus, can we talk about those statement earrings? They add just the right amount of sparkle to elevate the entire look. Definitely taking notes for my next outfit inspo!

This post makes a compelling case for the relevance of fashion blogs! Despite the shift to social media, blogs provide in-depth analysis and personal style insights that are often missed elsewhere. They remain a crucial resource for thoughtful and detailed fashion content. Thanks for reaffirming their importance in the industry!
