The Mood Fabrics Circle Skirt Calculator takes the guesswork out of drafting the perfect circle skirt. You pop in your waist measurement, length, the fullness of the skirt, and voila! The calculations are done for you! Now, in most cases, you’ll be able to fit your circle skirt pattern on your fabric of choice with no problem at all. But what happens when you get a message saying your skirt will not fit across the standard 54” width of fabric? In this post, we are going to show you how to fit your skirt pattern to achieve the fullness you desire! We’ve provided a free downloadable infographic for you to keep handy for all your future circle skirt projects!

So you have put in your measurements for your circle skirt and you get this message “The skirt you're currently designing will not fit onto the standard 45" or 60" width fabric”. Ok, so now what? The usual way to cut your fabric would be to fold the fabric selvage to selvage and then fold it again in half. You would then place your pattern on the inner corner that has both folded sides. This would create a full circle skirt. You will have two raw edges creating one center back seam.

Here’s what you can do instead. Use the circle skirt calculator to draft a half-circle skirt pattern using 1/2 of your waist measurement. Cut two pieces of fabric to create your full skirt. Open the fabric completely and place each half-circle skirt on your fabric as shown in the example below. This option will create two seams (four raw edges) so you now have the option of adding side seam pockets.

Another option is to use the circle skirt calculator to draft a half-circle skirt pattern and ¼ circle skirt pattern. Fold the fabric only once selvage to selvage creating one fold. Use the ½ of your waist measurement for the front panel and two ¼ panels will make up the back measurement of your skirt. Place the half-circle skirt pattern with one side on the fold. Place the other half-circle pattern on the fabric with the open edges. This would create a full circle skirt with six raw edges. Two side seams and one center back seam.
