My cape flies in the face of Edna Mode.
As a Mood blogger, I tend to write a lot of trend reports. This requires me to scour Vogue and review the runway almost every day, which results in an abundance of inspiration. My cup runneth over with clothes and accessories that I spot on the runway, yet my wallet runneth dry. But, when I spotted Dsquared2’s floor-length, lace cape in their Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection, I had to have it. I figured a cape can’t be that hard, and for once, I was right.

This DIY is so simple, there’s not a living thing on this Earth that couldn’t make it, and to be honest, a couple of rocks might be able to get together and make this thing.

Simple cape for the DIY inCAPEable.
Fabrics & materials used:
- 2 Yards of Midnight Blue Stretch Ruffled Lace
- 1 1/2 yards of 3/8″ Yellow Gold Double Face Satin Ribbon
There are only 3 steps for this DIY, so it goes pretty fast.
First, I hemmed both sides of the weft.
Second, I had to fortify the top of the lace. The top is attached periodically, so a ribbon can be woven through the holes. But, this piece can be loose, so I simply hand stitched where the lace connected.

Ribbon woven into the cape
Last, I wove the ribbon in and out of the holes.

Staring off serenely into the sun
That’s it! I don’t even have an anecdote about all my screw ups, because I didn’t screw up.

Just out here casually relaxing in this casual cape.
This cape is perfect for beach outings, especially if you love to look mysterious, glamorous, and dramatic all in one go. If you don’t live near the beach, or simply don’t like it, this cape is also perfect for long walks in the city or at the park, and makes a great garden party shawl.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a fabulous DIYer from Mood Fabrics in a stunning cape she made herself!
