Zipper Pouch
I’ve been in desperate need of organization lately. I am a mess, a hot mess of course, but still a mess. So, I decided to start with my purse and created this little zipper pouch to hold my lip gloss, travel-sized mascara, and bobby pins. It’s super cute and super easy, and the electric turquoise vinyl I used for the outside really stands out, making it easy to find when rooting around in a dark purse. All you need are two complementary fabrics and a zipper!
Fabrics & materials used:
- 1/4 yard Red Clay Floral Printed Cotton Voile – 8.5″ by 6″
- 1/4 yard Scuba Blue Wrinkled Faux Patent Leather with a Green Fabric Backing – 8.5″ by 6″
- 1 Orange Metal Zipper with a Gold Pull and Teeth – 4.5″
Instructions
First, I sewed the zipper onto the fabric. I laid the vinyl, which would be the outside of the pouch, face up and the zipper face down on the left side of the fabric, the two edges lined up.

Zipper face down, vinyl face up
Then, I laid the cotton voile, the lining, face down over the zipper, again lining up the edges.

I sewed along the edge, sewing together the outside, the zipper, and the lining.

Zipper sewn in
The next thing I had to do was sew the zipper in on the other side. I pulled the vinyl around and clipped it to the zipper, again with the faces together. I did the same with the lining, face to the back of the zipper.

Then, I sewed them all together, creating two tubes.

After this, I flipped the lining to the outside so I could sew the bottom part.

Flipped inside out
I sewed along the bottom, where the zipper sits when open. I trimmed the excess fabric to keep it looking clean.

Sewn at the bottom
Here comes the trickiest part. Not because it’s actually difficult, but because it’s a little hard to explain. Take the pouch, and pinch the top side together horizontally so that the zipper is on it’s own side.

Zipper on its own side
I sewed along the top edge, and then trimmed the fabric again. I opened the zipper, flipped it around again, and there it was! My very own triangular makeup pouch.

Cute pouch is cute!
Make your own in a variety of shapes and colors, and don’t forget to show me in the comments! What would you do differently?
