Breathe new life into any existing accessory piece with just a little patience and persistence. Embroidery beading is a perfect way to add drama and a touch of class to your wardrobe. This fabulous beaded fedora is the result of using age-old techniques and having the proper tools. Mood Fabrics has an extensive inventory of seed beads, Swarovski crystals, and appliques to land you couture-worthy compliments! Here's how to get started!

The first step is to arrange the appliques on your hat or accessory of choice. Once you have the desired position, stitch them in place. Because the backing of most appliques is a little stiff, using a standard sewing needle would work best.

Now that all of your appliques are sewn into position, you can begin building out your design. Using the loose beads, start to fill in any negative space.

Helpful Tips: Use a fabric pen or water-soluble ink to draw in your beading patterns. Just make sure to test a small area to make sure it doesn't leave a trace. Fill your bead organizer with your loose beads. Prep your workspace with the bead mat to prevent your beads from rolling away!

Beaded Backstitch: This embroidery beading stitch is great for beginners. Follow along with 4 easy steps.

Step 1: Thread a long string of beading thread onto the fine beading needle. Bring the needle up through the fabric. Load 3 beads onto the needle.

Step 2: Insert the needle again at the end of the 3 beads. Bring the needle up 1 bead back from the end.

Step 3: Now, bring the needle back to the end and insert it through the last bead.

Step 4: Continue on by adding another row of 3 beads. Follow this pattern to complete your desired design.

Try to follow the style lines of your appliques as a guide. Incorporate the same stitch layout if possible. Take your time. Embroidery beading is tedious work, but enjoy slowing down and most importantly have fun. It can very therapeutic.
