For this pattern hack, I cut out only the blouse pieces of the Heather Dress and went without the skirt. Blouses don’t often require a lining, making this project even quicker. Stitch the blouse according to the original instructions. For the neckline, I bound it with self-made bias tape. You can also quickly draft a facing or finish with an accented trim. In order to pull it on without a closure, I widened the neckline about an inch to accommodate for the head. It took me less than a day to whip up this quick and easy pattern hack!
The Bucket Hat
The Bucket Hat has quickly become one of our favorite free sewing patterns! Super simple, chic, and requiring very little fabric, it’s the perfect summer weekend project. Stitch it up in a day, and take it along for a beach trip or city date!
Luna Tank Pattern Hack
We love our Luna Jumpsuit, but we’re definitely partial to this super-easy pattern hack. Simply crop the pattern to the original waist, or extend the length by 6″. Make it in a fabulous silk charmeuse or bamboo jersey, and you’ve got yourself a sweet, simple summer tank!
The Dill Dress
A spin on the classic T-shirt, the Dill Dress is simple to sew and even easier to style. Wear it as-is out of a rayon-linen blend, or try it belted, paired with combat boots, an oversized hat, and a designer dress.
The Wilder Top
Sweet, sensual, and effortless, we picture the Wilder Top over a simple cami, or as-is with a pair of jeans. Plus, it works well with a variety of fabrics, meaning it’s the perfect stash-buster. Try tulle, voile, or a Swiss dot.
The Linda Pants
Everyone needs a go-to pair of comfy pants. Luckily, the Linda Pants are a perfect option! With a classic tailored silhouette, they’re super-simple to make and ideal for beginners or those strapped for time. For the summer, why not hack them into a pair of cuffed shorts?

Hi! For the first hack, do we still need all 3 yards of fabric?
Hi Gabby! You will have some extra, but the princess seam ruffle is quite large. I used 3 yards to make sure I had enough for that pattern piece. π
Merci beaucoup pour les patrons ! ! ! !
J’apprΓ©cie beaucoup le fait qu’il y est beaucoup de taille disponible.
Les patrons sont superbe……
Je vous poste des photos de France des que j’aurais finit de coudre.
Hi,
If one wanted to make the entire dress with the same fabric, how much is required?
Hi Linda! I would say 6-8 yards depending on your size and fabric choice. π
Hi!
Would the Heather top hack work with woven fabric too? Would I need to size down?
Hi! I made this pattern hack with a woven so it should work perfectly. π
… oh. I had an empty brain moment and wrote woven – I was supposed to ask if it’d be good with knits since the pattern is for wovens originally.
Ah, ok, no worries! I would suggest sizing down and reinforcing the neckline and armholes if you wanted to make it out of a knit. π
I squeeze my sewing time in around babysitting my 3 year old grandson (I have him 3 days a week) and the adult colouring competitions I enter π It can mean extra late nights sometimes but thatβs a small price to pay I say! Currently sewing the Parker Corset with some of my own modifications
I am a beginner and would like to download your pattern
Hi Camille! (Great name, by the way π ) You can download the original Heather Dress pattern here. π
Did you use a zipper for the Heather Dress hack? Or was widening the neck hole done to avoid needing a zipper?
Hi Adalia! I widened the neckline to avoid using a zipper. π
can i get the pattern for just the top part of the heather dress ?
its just too much to print everything for me
Hi Taneshia, in order to keep our patterns free we cannot offer print layout adjustments at this time. What I can do is send you a separate email with a list of the pages that you will need to print for the top only. Be on the lookout for an email from our wonderful customer service team! π
Can I also get the specs for just the top? Thanks!
Hi Peggy, weβre sorry for the delay in responding to your question! We get dozens of comments and questions each day, and so many questions get buried and, unfortunately, unanswered. We are now focusing user support on patterns 2 years and newer. We hope this will prevent questions on our more current patterns from going unanswered. Although this is late, we wanted to respond in case anyone else has the same question: in order to keep our patterns free we cannot offer print layout adjustments at this time.
Hello I love the hack but I want to put a zipper at the back what is the best option a regular zip or a coat zipper the one that opens out?
Hi Jade! I would use an invisible zipper for this one. π
For the Heather top hack, I know you widened the neckline to avoid using a zipper, but how does the waist line fit over the bust when putting the top on? It seems like the waist would be too small if it’s not stretch fabric. Thanks!

You can also size up for the waist and grade accordingly if you wanted to use a woven fabric.
