Tie-dye tends to come and go, but it arguably reached a high point this year. During the spring and summer, tie-dye jumpsuits quickly became the unofficial uniform of quarantine, but we have yet to see the trend fade. That said, there are so many ways to wear this vibrant trend, from loungewear to elegant shirt dresses and skirts. Whatever your style, let’s take a look at some free patterns that can help you jump on this popular trend.

For the outfits above, I used a few of Mood’s popular free patterns with few alterations.
The Lantana Maxi Shirt is shown here in a gorgeous tie-dye linen that drapes beautifully. Because of this, I skipped the darts and simply let the excess get cinched by the belt at the waist.
The loungewear ensemble was created using one of Mood’s stunning new tie-dye waffle knits. Since they’re a tad translucent, you may want to add a lining for daily wear, but otherwise it’s perfect for a summer sleepwear outfit! This version of the Lavender Tee was cropped a couple inches shorter than the original pattern and the Brya Pants were unaltered.

I am making the tie dye set for a friend! For the waffle knit tie dye would you recommend using a walking foot or no?
Hi, Meg! Yes, I’d recommend a walking foot – it makes sewing with stretch fabrics so much easier. 🙂
