Whether you’re lounging in your socially distant back yard or actually braving the beaches this summer, one thing is certain: comfort is on trend. We’ve seen everything from comfy silk loungewear to comfy athleisure and Comfy Girl Summer isn’t stopping there. Let’s take a look at some free sewing patterns that give off some serious beach vibes, but still look great in comfy jersey fabrics.
For this outfit above, I used a couple of Mood’s patterns that aren’t typically meant for jersey; but by sizing down once and using a stretch stitch, I was able to skip all closures for easy pull-on garments.
For the Apricot top, I skipped the lower ruffle and opted to get inspired by this tie front tutorial instead of going with the original grommets! The updated center front pattern piece ended up looking like this:
The Jamesia bottoms were cropped to a 20″ inseam for a capri-length garment.
One of my favorite things to do is take free sewing patterns and alter them to my hearts content. A pleated pair of Aster Pants in ponte knit, cropped to shorts length needs to be in my summer wardrobe pronto. Shavonne recently did a similar pattern hack with our Ixia Leggings, cropping them into the cutest pair of bike shorts, perfect for meandering the boardwalk.
A wrap dress is a must for any season, but a cute jersey version is perfect for throwing on over a swimsuit – go from beach to boardwalk restaurant in two seconds flat! Our Nyssa Dress would be perfect in any one of Mood’s knits, or you can try the Mallow Dress for a pullover option. Plus, both transition into the fall magnificently.
