Not sure what to wear to a barbeque or outside event? Summer is the time when we get to dress a little light. Wearing separates, such as a simple top and bottom with a classic fabric like linen, can make anyone look chic and relaxed. By cropping both the Parker Corset and the Watsonia Pants patterns, you’ll be ready to sip on some summer vibes. These separates can work with other attires such as casual wear, dinner, or office. Let’s not forget that linen will never go out of style and every color is amazing!

Bottoms
Using Mood’s Watsonia pattern, crop pants into shorts. Begin by starting at the inseam of the pants, measure down 10.5 inches (or desired length), and mark. Using your grainline, even out ruler to make a perfect hem line. Note: (it’s okay if your hemline looks a little slated, once assembled your hemline will look even.) Remember to give yourself a 2-inch hem allowance. It’s important to understand that pants have a lot of top stitching details, and that’s what gives a professional finishing to them.
Additional Pattern Recommendations:
Tops
Similar to the Watsonia alternation we made, the same idea will be implemented with the Parker Corset. Begin by making a straight horizontal line at the waist notch for each section. At the center front, measure to the desired length, in this case down 7.5 inches. Using the waistline as a guide, mark a new hemline for what you want to crop off. Then follow the original steps for the Parker pattern to complete the look.
Additional Pattern Recommendations:
Another recommendation for your summer BBQ attire would be, to create a jumpsuit instead of having them as separates. Adding straps to the top can also be another option for support.

Can I just print with regular sized paper or do they need to be on big sized paper
Hi, Sara! Our free sewing patterns are formatted for either US Letter or A4 paper. 🙂
What other materials could you use for this style?
Hi Kerryn! For this ensemble, we used a lightweight linen. You could also use chambray, seersucker, or cotton gingham. 😀
