Silk linen dupioni may just be taking a new place at the top of my ‘Favorite Fabrics’ list. It’s a breeze to work with; simple to cut, gorgeous to drape, and easier to sew than I would have expected. With a few silk pins and a microtex needle, I had no issues at all. Next up, I faced a dilemma though: What should I sew with this stunning textile? Let’s take a look at some wonderful free patterns that would look beyond chic in silk linen!

I chose the Mallow Dress for this pattern, with its wonderful drape and subtle gathers. While this fabric is lovely, it’s one downside is that there is zero stretch. Because of this, I widened the neckline slightly to allow for the wearer to get it over their head.
Silk linen dupioni has both a satin side and a matte side, both equally usable as the face. I played around with this a little bit, using the wrong side for the sleeve cuffs and neckline binding for just a bit of contrast.

beautiful!
Could the wilder top be flipped around easily? Also, would it be good In silk crepe de chine?
Yes, I’ve seen other makers wear it backwards and it looks gorgeous! And yes, a crepe de chine would be lovely. 🙂
beautiful!
Thanks for the great ideas! I would like to make similar dress. I am wondering, how did you finish the edges of the skirt? Is that a rolled hem or bias binding? Thank you!
This was a rolled hem! 🙂
