Free Sewing Patterns Ideal for Silk Linen

Posted on December 2, 2020 by Lee Norris

Silk linen dupioni may just be taking a new place at the top of my 'Favorite Fabrics' list. It's a breeze to work with; simple to cut, gorgeous to drape, and easier to sew than I would have expected. With a few silk pins and a microtex needle, I had no issues at all. Next up, I faced a dilemma though: What should I sew with this stunning textile? Let's take a look at some wonderful free patterns that would look beyond chic in silk linen!

I chose the Mallow Dress for this pattern, with its wonderful drape and subtle gathers. While this fabric is lovely, it's one downside is that there is zero stretch. Because of this, I widened the neckline slightly to allow for the wearer to get it over their head.

Silk linen dupioni has both a satin side and a matte side, both equally usable as the face. I played around with this a little bit, using the wrong side for the sleeve cuffs and neckline binding for just a bit of contrast.

Let's take a look at some more quick and easy downloadable free sewing patterns that are perfect for silk linen!

This fabric speaks for itself, so something as simple as our Vallea Tunic or Wilder Top would look just as wonderful as something with more body such as the Tecoma or Lyonia!
