Purchase Materials Used Below:
- 1 yard of Dusty Rose Stretch Ponte Knit
- 1 yard of Sky Blue Tie Dye Floral Cotton Lace
- 1 yard of Black Ponte Knit with Blue and Purple floral design
- 3 yards of Navy/Gray/Black Striped Grosgrain ribbon
- MDF109 – The Gilia Dress Sewing Pattern (free download below!)
All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless otherwise stated. See chart below for sizing specifications. Note, this specific pattern is available up to a size 30.

The original Gilia dress pattern has clean lines which make it perfect for altering the pattern. I shortened the sleeves and added a 2 1/2″ grosgrain ribbon to the end as a cuff trim.

The front panel trim was also reduced to 1.5″ wide using the grosgrain ribbon. You can increase your front bust pieces to accommodate the difference in the size of the center panel.
For the neck, I simply sewed the grosgrain trim to the neck opening. The finished neck still has a wide boatneck feel.

The skirt was divided into panels to showcase the print against a solid color. I divided the skirt into 3 panels on the front, and 4 panels on the back.
The center panel is solid and the side panels look great in the print!

To create the waistband, I simply sewed to strips of grosgrain ribbon together to make it wider. Once I had the front and back pieces sewn together I attached them to my bodice, and then to the skirt.
Make sure to press all seams so the trim on the waist will lay flat.

I didn’t add the trim to the bottom, so the edge just has a nice clean finish!

I love this so much, it gave me Byron Lars vibes as soon as I saw it. Thank you!
The line drawing is what really caught my eye. A daily or special occasion has a future with this pattern.
