If you have little ones like me, then you know tis the season for School Holiday Shows! Oh what joy!! My little angel Jordyn is in Kindergarten, so this was her very first school performance. I wanted to make sure she was ready for her first on stage appearance, and what better way to stand out than in her own custom dress?
For her dress, I used a classic drop waist silhouette from simplicity patterns. I chose a solid contrasting Chinese red stretch blended double cloth for the top portion of the dress and the bows. For the skirt portion, I used a red and black Tartan plaid. The two bows at the front right above the pleats gives it such a sweet look.
The only adjustment I made to the dress was to opt out of sewing in a zipper. Instead, I left a 3 ½” opening at the back neck, and finished it with a hook and eye closure. To me, this gave it a more delicate look.
This dress was fairly simple to sew, and would make a great addition to any girl’s wardrobe. My daughter loves it!
Here’s what I used:
- Simplicity Pattern: 1174 HH size 5
- Lollipop and Black Tartan Plaid Cotton Flannel
- Chinese Red Stretch Blended Double Cloth
