Every part of a garment is essential, so don’t miss out on the hemline trends for 2021. I promise there’s a hemline for everyone.
1. Asymmetrical Hem
The lack of symmetry continues from necklines straight into hems as well this year. Find hemlines that vary in lengths from start to finish, especially in skirts and dresses. Trapeze style, hi-low cuts, wrap skirts, and so much more are sure to accentuate the legs and let them take center stage.

2. Hems in Varying Lengths
A popular silhouette for the upcoming season is of the a-line variety. Find any length that you prefer, from mini to midi or even full-length. Dresses, skirts, and outerwear are marching to the beat of their drum, so pick a length, any length, and know that you can’t go wrong. Varying lengths have one exception, which applies to trousers. Full-length trousers are a must unless culottes are out and about. Add layers to hemlines of any length with the help of a tunic, which can add to a look or be the look all on its own.

3. Unconventional Hems
A hemline plays an essential role in a garment piece, and it’s important to think outside the typical box (or circle, in this case). Two interesting hem types this year include peplum and the pleated hem. The pleated hem adds an element of surprise with an unexpected amount of volume. Instead of having an entire skirt with pleats, which can be unruly and difficult to style, a pleated hemline is a perfect way to dip your toes in the water. If peplums aren’t your style, then consider the new drop hem peplum or play around with the design a little. I must admit that the peplum has grown on me.
