Recall earlier this year when ballet-inspired clothing swept the fashion scene. Typically, sports and fashion aren’t two worlds that closely coincide, but several factors seem to be pushing them together. As the runways revealed the trends for summer and fall, other sports beyond the newest ballet trend and the former equestrian trend began to appear.
After a year of dressing to stay inside has come to an end, the result left the masses itching to be outside. In a time filled with a lot of darkness, the pandemic also reminded everyone of the importance of simplicity and enjoying the great outdoors. Thus, sportswear influencing fashion started to make its mark. With many areas of the world making strides by opening back up on somewhat normal terms, the affinity for comfort-driven clothing is apparent.
While the need to get outside and enjoy life is a factor, other variants bringing sports and fashion together exist. Young pro athletes in respective sports such as golf brought in a different audience in the past year. Younger designers are also bringing a revitalizing spin to sports through streetwear in sports normally thought to be for those of high prestige.

Tennis and Golf Gain Major Attraction
As Gen-Z continues to rule the ever-popular social media platform we all know as TikTok, the most current and loved style circulating is tennis and golf attire. Covid influenced many factors, including the need for being outdoors and being active, and it shifted the world into wearing comfy clothes. A viral tennis skirt, one of the most highly coveted A-list celebs, and breakthrough news in the sport of tennis put it at the top of the “sports in fashion” radar, with golf following after. Sports are forecasted to remain in fashion well into the cooler seasons too, with skiwear and ballet-inspired fashion returning. Pastel shades of yellow, blue, and pink will take the place of last year’s cobalt blue and cherry red shades.

The Must-Have Looks
As the interest in sporty fashion continues to rise, there are certain pieces and looks that are in high demand. All white outfits and mix and match tops and skirts hit the scene first, spiraling into a need for pieces beyond the basics. The sports dress featuring built-in cycling shorts is among the newest evolution of a combination of several trending items married into one marvelous piece. The khaki Bermuda short is also on the rise, and perhaps this is one of the most shocking fashion trends of all.

What’s The Move?
With all of the golf and tennis talk, designers are targeting a younger market instead of the typical woman above 30. Requiring designers to marry fashionable pieces with the functionality and essence that the sports carry. Perhaps the best way to deliver this is by leaning into the preppy side of fashion.
