A family owned operation, Mood Fabrics entered the garment game in 1991. Since then, Mood has worked on bettering your sewing experience, whether you’re running your hands through fabric at the store (and trying to catch Swatch’s eye) or ordering swatches for your newest design. That’s why Mood has created exclusive collections featuring a variety of grains and prints. The inaugural Jacques Collection, which launched in October 2017, was inspired by romantic travels through Europe, two sweethearts in love with the land. Since then, a whole host of different collections have been presented, all with different themes and of exceptional quality. Make everyday a tropical vacation with the Aloha, Surya, and Key Largo Collections, or get nautical using the St. Tropez Collection. Feeling fall? Check out the Avenable Collection for patchwork, or the Harvest Collection for an autumnal aesthetic. For the nerdy fashionista, or the fashionable nerd, Mood’s Comic Collection will spark your imagination. No matter the weather, stay fashion forward with any of Mood’s Exclusive Collections.
What Goes into Choosing a Mood Collection?
Mood’s fabric buyer, Brittany, is on top of the trends and has a deep love of the classics. From fashions hitting the runway to tried-and-true styles, she takes it all into account when choosing the newest prints and grains for each collection. Her number one inspiration?
“The customers and their habits, absolutely. With each collection, I pay attention to what our customer wants and how they respond. After the Jacques Collection, which was very romantic and floral, I noticed a lot of people were interested in panels and border prints, which I started to include in future collections. Our customers also appreciated the more eclectic styles, prints they couldn’t get anywhere else. I wanted to infuse the collections with cohesive styles that still featured a lot of variations, so anyone could find something they loved.”
Looking for some of those eccentric styles? Mythology meets its match with the Gaia Collection, featuring celestial prints on dark backgrounds for bringing life into the cooler months. The Kenko Collection, themed around the famed philosopher Yoshida Kenko, presents safari styles mixed with happy florals and falling garments. In the words of Kenko himself, “Only a boring man will always want things to match; real quality lies in irregularity―another excellent remark.” Your wants are ours when it comes to the creation of each collection. At the end of the day, you inspire Mood and everything we do.
Mood Exclusives for Spring
The closet is born anew each spring, as bulbs take root in the awakening soil and birds come home from their lofty vacations. Longing for luxe looks that mirror the landscapes coming to life? Mood’s Jacques, Felipe, and Botanical Collections all sport florals and foliage. While Jacques is quite romantic, Felipe and Botanical feature rich colors and happy prints. Mood’s Haberdashery Collection is a special celebration of sewists, with prints that present spools of thread, dress forms, and vintage sewing machines. Launched on May 1st, 2019, it features a variety of grains including twill and voile. This makes it the ideal collection for spring, as twill is great for bottoms and light jackets, while voile makes beautiful blouses.
Mood’s Cypress Dress features the Ile des Orchidees Cotton Sateen, which was a part of the Jacques collection. It’s perfect for warm spring afternoons, walking through the park and having a picnic.
Create the Gilia Dress from a twill to show off your sewing specialties using the Haberdashery Collection, or the Molina Tunic with sateen from the Botanical Collection. In need of a polished style that will travel well? Utilize the nautical St. Tropez Collections’ crepe fabric for a style that warms you up and cools you down when you need it.
Mood Exclusives for Summer
Summer styles can’t be stopped, as warm winds bring the scent of the ocean’s excitement and minty mojitos to travelers and certified sea-side stylists. In need of some tropical trends for your vacation? Or simply looking to bring the beach back home with you? Mood’s Aloha and Key Largo Collections feature tropical themes, while the exotic Surya Collection presents a variety of floral fabrics in reds and oranges, the color of summer sunsets by the bay. Banana leaves bend and sway in many of the prints featured in the Key Largo Collection, as Brittany noticed how many people were searching for the lush leafage. The St. Tropez Collection, which launched May 13th, 2019, transitions beautifully from spring to summer with a variety of voiles, sateens, and crepes all with a nautical motif.
Mood’s Apricot Ensemble, a beautiful set that can be used as pajamas, or as an outfit for pool parties and rooftop cocktails, was made using Ardhanarishvara’s Creativity Cotton Voile from the Surya Collection.
If you’re in need of some summer silhouettes, utilize sateen to create the Laelia Tunic, or a voile for the Nyssa Dress, lined with something simple or worn over a slip. The Piper Shorts are another great option, with a paperbag waist and simple construction. Create a popping style with a nautical crepe, or use a floral sateen for a feminine aesthetic.
Mood Exclusives for Fall
The moment the wind picks up and temperatures drop, the crisp climate invades our bones and forces the fashionable to reach for slouchy sweaters and lattes filled with cinnamon and strength. For a truly autumnal style, check out the Harvest Collection, which is saturated in fall themes and color schemes, or utilize the Avenable Collection to capture the patchwork prints that have been so popular on the runway. The Comic Collection, inspired by the iconic pop art of old-school comic books, features voiles and sateens, ideal for transitioning into fall or lining bomber jackets with popping prints. Mood’s Kenko Collection, launched August 19th, 2019, presents voiles, sateens, and crepes with eccentric prints of falling garments, domestic scenes, and subtle safari styles.
In need of something sturdy for this season? Mood’s Aster Pants, both cropped and full, were made of crepe from the St. Tropez. We recommend using a Kenko crepe for a truly fall fashion, or try your hand at a more structured style with Mood’s Exclusive Eternal Rockwell Stretch Paisley Jacquard from the Harvest Collection. Malleable for a jacquard, most jacquard fabrics would not work for the Aster Pants, but this particular textile is more flexible and soft.
Create the Setaria Dress using a sateen from the Harvest collection, or fashion the Onella Blouse with an Avenable poplin for a crisp and clean silhouette. Mood’s Lunaria Dress is another pattern that’s perfect for transition periods, as well as layering, since you can easily pair it with jeans or leggings to take on the tunic trend. Use sateen from the Kenko collection or the Harvest for a sturdy style, or voile paired with a tank top (like Mood’s Marigold Camisole) for a Lunaria filled with layered looks.
Mood Exclusives for Winter
Thoughts of warm winds and gentle rain are doted on as brisk breezes scatter snow across the land. Invoke the gods and goddess of old to keep you warm with Mood’s Gaia Collection, or bring beauty to the barren bowls of winter with Mood’s Artist Collection, which features 3D fabrics and mikado twills. Mood’s newest collection thrives in all climates, as the Crow Collection features hauntingly beautiful prints on darker backgrounds. Masculine meets feminine in this spirited collection, which launched today, October 9th! A variety of prints featured on crepe, voile, and sateen, create jackets, line coats, and fashion tapered trousers with witchy prints sure to give you chills while keeping the cold at bay.
Mood’s Spruce Dress, ideal for layering on the coldest days, was made using a new crepe from the Crow Collection, but would be stunning in a sateen from the Gaia Collection or mikado from the Artist Series.
Create the Calla Coat using a sateen from the Gaia Collection for an out-of-this-world aesthetic, or the Zinnia Jacket from a Crow crepe for a sinister and stylish silhouette. Mood’s Xyris Dress buttons all the way up, so it can be worn as a dress or maxi shirt. Use a mikado twill from the Artist Series for a stroke of inspiration, or a Crow sateen for a more edgy ensemble.
From floral prints to patchwork patterns, and everything in between, Mood’s Exclusive Collections have it all, and more!
