Tools Used:
- Pattern Paper
- French Curve
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Clear Ruler

Directions:
1. Create Line A-B using High Point Shoulder (HPS) to Waist measurement
2. Line A-C will be half of your across chest measurement +3/8”
3. Line C-D you will drop a 1-1/2” line from Point C
4. To create Line D-E draw a diagonal line toward Line A-B using your shoulder length measurement

5. On Line A-B mark your Center Front Length starting from Point B and marking up from that point
6. From Point A draw a 45 degree angle the same length of Line A-E measurement +3/8” to create Line A-G
7. Square a line ½” from point E and a ½” line from Point F
8. Using your French curve create your neckline by joining Point E, Point G and Point F

9. On Line A-B create Point H at the halfway point
10. Line H-I will be ½ of Front Bust measurement plus ½”
11. On Line F-H create Point J at the halfway point
12. Line J-K is ½ of your Across Chest measurement, starting from Point J

13. Point L is at ½ of your Across Chest measurement on Line H-I
14. Line L-M is a 1” line on a 45 degree angel
15. Using your French Curve, create your armhole by connecting Point D to Point K to Point M to Point I *Point I should remain straight at least ½” from where it ends
16. 2” below Point H create Point N

17. From Point N, Create line N-O using measurement of Line H-I plus 3/8”
18. Using your Side Length draw a line from Point I through point O that will end at Point P
19. From Point B measure 3” and draw a line *You can take this measurement from the Center Front of your waist, straight down from your Apex which is the farthest part of your bust from your body where those two meet. Giving your the distance of this measurement from Center Front for your first Dart Leg
20. Joint Point O to Point P

21.From Point P you will create your other Dart Leg, take ½ of your Front Waist measurement + ¼”, then subtract the length of Line B-Q
- Example: Front Waist Measurement: 14” divided by 2 = 7
- Add ¼” = 7 ¼”
- Subtract Line B-Q: -3
- Line P-Q = 4 ¼”
22. Mark the midway point of Point Q and Point R
23. From the midway point place your ruler on a 90 degree angle and draw line to touch Line N-O
24. Create Dart Legs from Point Q to vanishing point on Line N-O and Point R to vanishing point on Line N-O

25. Add Seam Allowances: ½” at neckline, 1” at shoulder, ½” around armhole, 1” at side seam and 1” at waistline
Stick around for the back sloper next!

Beautifully explained and done. Thank you so much
Love this tutorial so easy to understand !
Hi,
I just saw a pop-up on a sewing bootcamp taught by Helen Castillo but can’t find it on the site to register.
Just bought a sewing machine and this would be perfect for me to get started. Would you be able to send me the information on it? Thank you so much! Ida
Of course! You can find the online classes here! 🙂
I just watched the bodice sloper tutorial. It was thoroughly explained! Thank you so much!
Hi there!
Would this method of sloper drafting apply to men as well? I know men has different bumps and curves than we do, but since the measurements are personal would I be able to use this to draft a sloper for my husband as well?
Thank you so much!
Hi, there! Yes, this would work for all body types. However, if it helps, we also have this men’s shirt drafting tutorial! 🙂
Thank you for this very organized tutorial. I really like that you start at the top and stay there until all the points are drafted. I’ve seen videos that are all over the map, which makes it so confusing. Helen, you get 10 STARs from me!
