We were in love with double cotton gauze earlier this year for spring, and we're continuing to love it into the fall! This breathable fabric is perfect for autumn layers or for adding some texture to your wardrobe basics.

For this outfit above, I used a few of Mood's staple patterns.

The top was made using the Bixa Sweatshirt pattern, altered to follow this tutorial for a single, flared sleeve.

The bottoms are a pair of Primrose Pants with no alterations!

Let's take a look at some more quick and easy downloadable free sewing patterns that are perfect for back to school!

When it comes to cotton gauze, simple silhouettes are the best way to go, so the unique texture of the fabric can be the highlight. Because of this, it's a good idea to think 'layers' for gauze tops. The Vallea Tunic would be perfect over a pair of leggings or jeans, while the Wilder Top can be thrown on over anything!

Since cotton gauze is a similar weight to a shirting, why not add a shirtdress to the mix? Our Cypress Dress and Lunaria Dress would both look stunning, as would the vintage-inspired Shirley Dress. As for the Nyssa, everyone needs a wrap dress their wardrobe, and one made from cotton gauze would be the epitome of comfort.

Jumpsuits are a favorite no matter the season; simply throw them on and your whole outfit is done! The original Fern Jumpsuit was sewn in a cotton gauze, so we don't need to imagine how absolutely gorgeous it would be. The Perilla Jumpsuit gives off some of the vintage vibes from the Shirley, while staying a bit more comfortable for those who don't love skirts.
