We’ve touched on this summer’s sheer trend and how much we’re loving it already. However, as this trend is bound to continue into the next season, let’s discuss how we can transition this trend into the fall! From intricately embroidered lace to organza to voile, let’s discuss the best fabrics to use for this trend and how to add them to your autumn wardrobe.
For this sheer tie blouse, I used Mood’s Wilder Top sewing pattern with no alterations. The only thing I switched up a bit, was to place the portion for the front neckline along the scalloped edge of the gorgeous lace I was working with!

Let’s take a look at some more fabrics that are perfect for the sheer trend!
Embroidered Lace, Mesh, & Tulle
When it comes to lace, mesh and tulle, it always looks stunning when there’s a lot of it. When picking your patterns for these fabrics, think ruffles, pleats, and gathers. We’ve already given our Lantana and Camellia tops a try with mesh and tulle, but a Heather Dress might just be next on our list! Our Bixa Sweatshirt is also a great choice for these fabrics; you could even skip the undersleeve and make a fully sheer-sleeved sweatshirt!

Chiffon & Georgette
Chiffon and georgette are both thin, flowy, and look best in silk, but this doesn’t mean it needs to be a fabric limited to special occasions. Try a sheer Onella Blouse paired with a fancy camisole or bralette, or any one of our dress patterns over a gorgeous slip!

Organza & Organdy
Organza and Organdy both want to be loud and proud! When working with these fabrics, don’t be afraid of volume. Our Poppy Dress and Davallia Bodysuit both bring puff sleeves to the table, perfect for these fabrics. You can even see how we used organza for our own version of the Davallia! The Aster Pants would be perfect for fall layers over some cute bike shorts or decorative tights, while a transparent Avelia Bomber would look beyond chic.

Voile is going to be your best bet if you love the sheer trend, but still want a little more modesty or warmth as we head toward fall. This thin fabric still let’s some color and light through, while staying just a bit more opaque than organza or tulle. That said, it can often behave much like both of those fabrics, so big sleeves or ruffles are where it’s at! We’ve already used voile for our Ginger Dress and Elaeis Shirt, but we can just as easily see a Lyonia Shirt or Lunaria Dress with this delicate fabric.
