Denim is a fashion staple, and a classic casual look. Hollywood is littered with denim disasters (um Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake walking the red carpet in a denim dress in suit), but there are some greats among the garish. Let’s take a look at the best on screen and television denim ensembles.
Drive
Drive is one of those movies where Ryan Gosling is creepy hot instead of charming hot. Regardless, he’s still got some killer style, rocking a satin bomber with an embroidered scorpion on the back for most of the movie. Early on, though, he sports this denim-on-denim ensemble while grocery shopping. Although this is a tough look to pull off, it’s perfect for driving the getaway car in a robbery, or late night walks on the beach with old friends.
These denims are to die for:
Dukes of Hazzard
Dukes of Hazzard follows country cousins Bo and Luke, and their other cousin Daisy Duke. Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke in a pair of short shorts is the epitome of denim fashion, and her style here infiltrated the closets of many fashionistas. These shorts are perfect for thwarting the corrupt county commissioner, or running the local moonshine distillery.
Friends
It’s no secret that when it comes to Friends, Rachel was the stylish one. These denim overalls are just a taste of Rachel’s stellar style, and radical denim collection. Her wardrobe is brimming with denim button ups, skirts, shorts, and yes, more overalls. This look was made for picking up shifts at the local coffee shop, or falling in and out of love with your best friend’s brother.

The Outsiders
The Outsiders is a coming-of-age film about a rough-and-tumble, working class gang of teenagers, the Greasers, who often fight with the wealthy gang of teenagers in town, the Socs. This analysis of class and young adulthood in 1960’s Oklahoma has touched the hearts of many, and influenced the fashion of some. These denim clad dudes may be portraying working-class youths, but their style screams Hollywood. All denim ensembles, denim mixed with leather, and the classic plaid on denim. The Outsiders‘ denim digs are ideal for winning the local rumble, or saving children from a burning church.

Uptown Girls
The free-living, fun-loving daughter of a rock star, Molly Gunn, played by Brittany Murphy, has a rude awakening when her accountant embezzles all her money, leaving her broke and homeless. She takes up a job as a nanny, caring for an uptight pre-teen with a comatose dad. Hilarity ensues, and then it gets sad, but it all ends up okay. Throughout all this, Molly rocks some rad outfits, but her denim dress, littered with patches, takes the cake for best ensemble on the movie. Whether you’re riding the tea cups at coney island or chasing after neurotic preteens, this denim dress is the perfect outfit.
