I’m in love with this fabric!
When I first took this job here at Mood I wondered: Could a girl get sick of fabric? You know, like a teenager who won’t eat ice cream after working in an ice cream shop all summer long? Readers, I’m happy to report I’m still flipping out over fabric two months into my new position here.
My newest fabric crush is shown here, a colorful poly-blend matelassé Mood just acquired on an Italian buying trip. I was introduced to it in our warehouse last week and I started drooling immediately. As soon as I could, I nabbed two yards to make a dress.

I’m trying to find a dress pattern that’s worthy of this fine material. Something with simple lines to let the fabric be the star. Feel free to leave any pattern suggestions in the comments area. I hope to make a muslin this week and start on the dress by the long weekend. Finished dress will be shared here, I promise.
Now here are some words that make my heart go pitter-pat: “Italian fabric buying trip.” How cool would it be to go on a trip to Italy to buy fabrics from the same textile mills that Valentino, Etro and Dolce & Gabbana use? Gee, that sounds like the prize for a Mood-sponsored contest, doesn’t it? Maybe someday, dear readers!

Ooh, I think this would be gorgeous made up with Pattern Runway’s One Shouldered Bow Dress… it’s got such great drape that it would look amazing, and one-shouldered styles are so perfect for summer!
By the way, I worked in an ice cream shop as a teenager, and I NEVER got tired of it! I still love it. I’m sure it will be the same for fabric!
I worked in Rag Shop for 2 summers during college and never got tired of fabric!

Wow. That is stunning. Almost worthy of framing. 8-D I can’t imagine ever having the skills and nerve to cut into $50 per yard fabric. Okay, maybe a sorbetto, because it is so easy. So really I am no help at all choosing a pattern.

I would love to buy some of this fabric but it’s not on the website and I live to far away to get to the store. But I do love the fabric I’ve gotten from the website.
Lola, you can always call our NYC or LA store and order through one of our sales associates. Ask for the silk department. I’m pretty sure this fabric will be in our stores today; it was all packed up and ready for shipping from our NJ warehouse on Monday. You’ll love it!
Ohhhh that is good news….I will have to call. Thank you for letting me know…I want to make a sleeveless dress with full skirt….what a great summer look.
I think this would be a beautiful dress with either a one shoulder or halter top,very fitted with a full gathered skirt

I have no doubt you will find the perfect pattern for it, but oh I love it, too! I’d make a simple sheath dress with a boatneck.
