There is nothing more inviting anytime of the year than a deep green fabric. Make that deep green a silk and you have completely won me over.
Before I started sewing, my knowledge of silk was a thin fabric that stained easily and was worn only in the summer. All that changed when I started to experiment with the wide range of silk moodfabrics.com has to offer.
When it comes to silk you have so many options to choose from including wool, satin, organza, shantung, organza and on and on and on. Each one performs in a way that’s nothing like the other and the moment you think you’ve found your perfect silk, in walks an even more beautiful version.
The silk I used for this dress is this faille silk, found at moodfabrics.com. It’s a stiff silk perfect for more structured looks with zero drape . The description states it’s a medium weight but I would consider it a more light to medium weight. It sews and cuts nicely but definitely more of a challenge to iron, so keep that in mind.
The dress was made using vintage Simplicity 8390 with the following alterations:
FYI A great alternative pattern is McCall M7244
-Added 4″ to the length of the bodice
-Added a 90″x6″ inverted ruffle hem
-Removed 20″ from the length of the sleeve and added a 60″x7″ inverted pleat to the sleeve and a 1/2″ band
Chandler’s top was made using this cotton swiss dot and her shorts were made using this ponte knit
