My version of the little black dress is the little red dress despite my love of the color black. I’m one of those people that purchase 99% of my fabric online, so the need to touch and feel the fabric isn’t necessary. I have a good understanding of how a fabric responds based on the content which Mood Fabrics does a great job of accurately describing. This dress was made using this wool from Mood Fabrics which is perfect. It’s med/hvy weight, sews nicely and in addition to a great dress, it would make a great pair of trousers. This dress was made using the Vogue V8840 pattern which has made so many alteration appearances based on the fact this simple two piece pattern as plain as it is, has endless possibilities. The alterations made to this pattern were as follows:-Added 6″ to the length of the pattern-Added 1″ to the height of the neck in the front only
-Added a 3″ v-cut in the neck
-Added a 4.5″ keyhole to back of the neck
-Added 1″ to the width of the front and back pattern piece
-Added 5″ to the length of the sleeve
-Added a 2″ band to the hem
-Added a bell sleeve by cutting a piece of fabric 16″ wide x 26″ long, fold the fabric in half, sew the ends together and add to the sleeve by pleating.

I absolutely, positively LOVE your style of dress and creative genius as it pertains to fitness and fashion. I too am 5’10 and and often find it challenging to find clothing that fits perfectly as well as compliments my tall, skinny figure. I have a vision for my life even as it pertains to my style of dress and the image that I’d like to exude. Because of YOU, yes YOU AND answered prayer, I have been inspired to now have at least 50% of my wardrobe made! I am so excited! I do NOT sew but I am determined to find a seamstress who is as skilled as you are. You Nikky are simply amazing! Me finding your blog was an answered prayer…it really was. I’ve always known from an early age how I wanted to dress as an adult. Your blog and fashion creations epitomize how I see myself and style of dress that I prefer and desire. I just want to say to you Nikki, Thank you for being such a blessing to me!
I must say, you are creative. I have that very same pattern and it never occurred to me to alter it in such an imaginative way. Congratulations!
Pretty dress! The changes you made to the pattern are nice.
