Having a baby may bring on a few things to stress about, but your wardrobe needn’t be one of them. There are tons of free sewing patterns that are maternity-friendly, or very close to it. Many in the list below can even transition perfectly into a non-maternity wardrobe later down the line! First up is the Amaryllis Dress, which is a gorgeously tiered dress. Not only is this silhouette on trend for those of us without a baby bump, but the design’s free waist and hips make it a comfy option no matter how far along you are!

If you want to make some garments that’ll last past your pregnancy, wrap silhouettes are the way to go! Each of these designs would work in their original woven options, but jersey knit versions would be the ultimate comfort. Note, since the Mallow is technically a faux wrap dress, a jersey is definitely recommended there. Mood’s bamboo jersey is the softest I’ve ever sewn with!

Each of these garments would make great maternity wear with just a few small changes. First, the Alder Top is already fairly free size-wise, but you may just want to add a bit of length to the front to account for your bump. For the dresses, my main suggestion would be to raise the waist to lay more like an empire waist. The free size skirts should adjust comfortably to fit over your belly without changing a thing, although you can always opt to lengthen them. For the Yarrow and Zenobia, I recommend trying them in a comfy knit like this velour version we made in the past!

You are like a machine! How do you get so many patterns and tutorials and blog posts (etc etc) out?! Honestly, so impressive. Such a talented woman! You are appreciated. Thank you!
I have an amazing team to help me out!! 😀 We’re hoping to bring even more video tutorials and premium pattern options in the near future, so keep an eye out. 🙂 🙂
Your patterns look great but I cannot find the measurement chart.
Hi, Pam! The measurement chart is listed on each of the original patterns’ blog posts, just beneath the download form. 🙂
I say this as someone who didn’t buy any actual maternity clothing – excellent choices and in addition to the extra length cutting the front pieces a size bigger helps too, because it’s not just your belly that expands.
The cross over options can also be worn afterwards to help with easy nursing.
I love your patterns
