So…I was recently on the Louis Vuitton website just taking a look around and came across this super cute fur pompom called the foxy that was ultra chic. But, you can imagine the jaw dropping awe I experienced when I found out that this furry little number was retailing for over $1200 (yikes)! Well, you know my thought…this baby can be replicated for a whole lot less — and I’m going to show you how. I took some fur that I found at Mood Fabrics along with a couple of pieces of gold hardware, and I was ready to go. Eager to see some other fur DIY’s? SUPPLIES: scissors, finding, end cap with screw, clasp, needle and thread, 2 sets of pliers, and about 4 square inches of faux fur.
HOW-TO:
1. When cutting your piece of fur to size, be sure to make a path to cut the hair so there will be some overhang on the edges (Note: mine was about 2.5 x 3.5 inches).
2. This is how it will look in the back
3. Start rolling your fur from both ends tightly, until you reach the center.
4. Take your needle and thread and start stitching one end of your roll. The first few stitches pull taught, but the last few create a little loop with your thread.
5. Open up your finding with both sets of your pliers. Be careful not to squeeze too hard, or you’ll scratch your finding.
6. Place your end cap on the first end of your roll that you hand stitched, and pull the thread loop through.
7. Slip your open finding onto this loop….twist and re-pull it through it you want to take the slack out of the thread loop.
8. Place your hook through the finding and close it up with your pliers.
9. Push the screw that comes with the end cap through its opening. Close it up with pliers or an eyeglass screw driver if you have it. Again, take your time and be careful not to scratch your end cap.
10. Lastly, repeat Steps 3 and 4, and roll your two ends together and stitch it. (Note: this time you won’t need to create a loop).
