This is one of my new favorite #madewithmood moments. Minimalist garments are making their way into every runway right now, and while I am loving it, sometimes an outfit just needs a powerful punch. Cue feathers!
For this project I put together some super easy bracelets, and an adorable feather necklace that gives off a cute bolo tie vibe.
Fabrics & materials used:
- 1 yard Black Braided Faux Leather Trim
- 1 yard 6″ Dark Navy Feather Fringe
- 2 yards 3/16″ Black Aluminium Metal Chain
- Alene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue
To make the wrist cuffs, cut a length of faux leather trim to wrap around your arm 1.5-2 times (depending on how bulky you’d like it). Use Fast Grab tacky glue to adhere the feather trim to the faux leather. Leave 1/2″ of the leather to fold over the feathers to finish off the ends. Easily secure it around your wrist with some sew-on snaps or velcro!
The necklace (or tie, depending on how you see it) is even easier to put together! Simply choose 3 feathers from your fringe trim and gently pull them loose. Apply some tacky glue to a tiny strip of your faux leather trim and roll it around the base of the feathers, glueing them all in place.
Take 3 links off the end of your length of chain and reattach them to the middle (I placed mine slightly off-center so the excess in the back was a little asymmetrical, but that’s purely personal choice).
To attach the feathers to the chain, simply use a few hand-stitches along the back of the faux leather trim and sew around the bottom link.
Each project can be done in under ten minutes, which makes it a great last minute gift idea or the perfect addition to an otherwise simple outfit! Will you be giving it a try? I’d love to see which feathers you use – be sure to tag Mood in your finish project!
