Please note: Fit can change depending on your shape and size, so I always recommend creating a muslin first.
To start, I assembled the bodice before transferring the painting lines onto the faux leather. Waiting until after it was sewn ensured that I could easily align everything perfectly! To transfer the lines, I simply traced them with a serrated tracing wheel, which left behind a faint dotted line like you see above.
Next, I could easily go over the lines with some Angelus leather paint. The bird detail along the top of the bodice was created the same way.
For the skirt, connect the front and back at the dotted rectangles on the template. When you pleat the skirt, the seam should fall inside and be invisible. Pleat the skirt by meeting the dotted lines between the arrows, as you see above.
The belt was made using the same gold faux leather that’s at the top of the bodice. To make it a little more structured and belt-like, I fused it to some extra red patent faux leather that I had. It went together super easily with spray adhesive, and then I cut the extra off after it dried.
Lastly, I top-stitched the belt to the skirt and added a strip of Velcro down the back to close it.
