As I mentioned in another post on Leather Pencil Case I mentioned that I make my own handstitched leather bags, and I was having the hardest time finding dust covers that were the dimensions I wanted. So….being the DIYer that I am :), I took to Mood Fabrics to find the linen I needed, to get the job done. This was a super easy project and will help preserve your precious bags for years to come. Have a favorite handbag you want to protect? Tell me about it below.
SUPPLIES: straight edge, straight pins, one safety pin, rotary cutter (not pictured), scissors, cord, linen, and a sewing machine (could be hand stitched as well).
HOW-TO:
1. With your rotary cutter and your straight edge, cut out a giant rectangle the size you need (remember to double the length) and fold it in half.
2. Next (while I don’t have a serger), I used one of these videos to show me how to do a simple stitch to finish the edges of my fabric.
3. After that, fold down a “hem” twice to create a little “sleeve” for your cord….then pin it in place. (Note: I eye-balled mine, but feel free to measure it for accuracy).
4. Stitch the hem you created, and then stitch the sides of the bag together.
5. Lastly, take your cord and attach a safety pin to the end. Use the safety pin as a guide to feed the cord through the “sleeve.” Knot the ends and you are all set.

Very nice, I wanted to see your pencil bag but when I clicked the link Word Press opens to sign into.
I enter my email & it says it is wrong. I try to register & it says I am already registered.
I don’t understand Word Press has I have had that problem for years.
Sorry I couldn’t see your case
The pencil bag link should be working now. Thank you for the catch!
Thanks I love this!!
