Fringe has been a staple at countless runways this past year; from Marchesa to Michael Kors, Balmain to Prabal Gurung, the list can go on and on. Sometimes I’ll look at runway fashion and wonder how I could ever bring it down to an everyday-wear level, but the options with fringe are positively endless. This quick and easy addition to any basic sheath dress is stunning for a night out, garden parties, and weddings alike!
Fabrics & materials used:
- 1 yard Zinc Stretch Ponte Knit
- 1 yard Dusty Rose 40″ Chainette Fringe Trim
- 1 yard Black Fancy Beaded Trim
For this, you really just need any little dress, black or otherwise. For the zinc gray one you see above, I chose to use McCall’s M2401. The ponte I used is new at Mood, and I have to say that it’s one of the nicest I’ve worked with. The stretch is comfortable and the hand is incredibly smooth. Without the fringe, it would make for some perfect office attire.
I pinned the fringe around the bodice and machine stitched it into place. There was about 5-7″ overhanging the dress, so I had a bit to work with when trimming the overhang to an even 3″.
The black beaded trim was completely hand-sewn over the top of the fringe, using a slip-stitch. I also added it around the shoulder straps for another cute detail.
I love that this concept can be applied to a dress you’re making from scratch or used to update one you already have in your wardrobe! Will you be trying this project in the future?
