One of the freshest, most feminine silhouettes is the midi skirt. These perfect skirts can be worn in the summer as well as the winter, along with a pair of tights and a great pair of boots. My skirt was made with this MoodFabrics.com cotton twill—a medium-weight organic fabric perfect for the more structured skirt. The pattern used for this skirt was Butterick B5285, view B, with the following alterations:
• Added 12″ to the length
• Used inverted pleats instead of box pleats
• Added a 4 1/2″ high waist
The top was made with this MoodFabrics.com cotton shirting, a lightweight fabric perfect for a top with a tad bit of stretch needed. The leather used is a medium-weight lambskin, which, when paired with this Italian cotton, is a perfect combination. The pattern used for this top is Vogue V8877, view A, with the following alterations:
• Added a 1/2″ collar
• Removed 7″ from the bottom of the pattern to create a cropped top
• Added a back pleat
The arm warmers are DIY wool and leather made here.
I happen to love this look, but when my husband saw me, his first response was “that’s an interesting outfit,” which means he’s not a fan, but hey, what do men know! Editor’s note: Gotta say we love this look too. Sorry, Nikki’s husband!

I’m a BIG fan of black. And this is an awesome ensemble. I love it from head to toe!
Utterly stunning. Classic meets chic & stylish. I love the leather trim crop top. Very nice
This is a very lovely outfit. I am a guy and I can appreciate a well sewn skirt.
Great job! You look like you could be my sister–dimples and all.
I love your style, sis.
My husband’s code for “I don’t like it” is: Can I be honest? Lol
