In correspondence of the new year: It’s time to announce Mood’s 2023 textile pick. For 2023 we are leaning on fabric that both looks and feels great while being low-fuss to care for. This double-knit beauty ticks all the boxes—Let’s give it up for Ponte!

About Ponte
Ponte is a fabric made in a double-knit construction, ideal for colder weather. This knit has an elastic quality and looks the same on both sides unless one side is printed. It’s great for many styles, including bodycon garments and shapewear, as the fabric holds its shape. The structure of this fabric makes it ideal for smoothing out the figure while adding support. It’s a stable textile that works for either knit or woven fabrics. Ponte is used in garments for casual, sport, and work wear. Ponte is completely opaque, resistant to wrinkles, and holds its shape well.
Sewing with Ponte Tips
- Cutting: Use a rotary cutter and pattern weights or shears and fine quilting pins when cutting Ponte fabrics to avoid holes.
- Ponte doesn’t curl or fray, so seam finishing isn’t required.
- All-purpose thread and a size 70/09 ballpoint needle are best when sewing with most Ponte.
- No special sewing foot is necessary when sewing unless using several layers.
Pattern Recommendations:
To make the most of patterns made with Ponte, look to shaped dresses, jumpsuits, trousers, and blazers. They lend a smart-casual look that’s both comfortable and flattering due to the knit construction. Sportswear is another option when sewing with Ponte due to its elastic nature and body-smoothing properties. For more pattern suggestions, see the following free swing patterns below.

What is the fiber content of Ponte?
Hi Marilyn, we’re sorry for the delay in responding to your question! We get dozens of comments and questions each day, and so many questions get buried and, unfortunately, unanswered. We are now focusing user support on patterns 2 years and newer. We hope this will prevent questions on our more current patterns from going unanswered. Although this is late, we wanted to respond in case anyone else has the same question: 62% Rayon, 32% Nylon, 6% Spandex
