Looking forward to a brand new year brings a whole new season of fashion just around the corner. The warmer months that follow will soon bring spring styles, but who knows exactly what to expect after the past few years. I would title this spring’s styles exactly that way: Expect the unexpected. Below are the notable fabrics, prints, colors, and styles predicted to rule the springtime.
Fabrics
Aside from the expected: cotton, linen, and a ton of flowy garments, there are some less assuming spring fabrics on the rise. With the biker trend on the rise, leather closely follows in biker jackets, asymmetrical minis with eye-catching hardware, and even pleats. Leather and denim make a lot of sense, and they made quite a few appearances together on the spring runways.
If you’ve been to gatherings around the holidays, you know sparkles have a moment each year from Christmas to New Year, but this year all things sparkly have been granted an extension. The spring runways were filled to the brim with sequins, chainmail, and shiny things galore. After the whole sweatpants phase, being overdressed isn’t really a thing anymore.
Knits continue their reign this season. Channel the preppy revamp with knit vests paired with trousers and cropped knits that expose the midriff.
Prints & Colors
What comes to mind when you hear phrases like “groovy?” I know I think of the psychedelic era that was the 70s, and that period is just where the first print from the spring forecast comes from. Think swirls, bold deco flowers, and out-of-this-world color combos in every color of the rainbow are HOT for the summertime.
Now, moving from one colorful print to another, a spring staple is the vacay-ready prints we all know like florals, and palm leaves. Both prints boast bright colors and fun designs. Lastly, stripes are here for those that don’t love bold on bold. Whether you’re wearing bold stripes or more tame ones, this is a print where comfort levels are found again.
Standout colors from the fashion rainbow were saffron and white, both were featured in standalone head-to-toe looks. Saffron is a bold red, and the spring runway proved that it’s here for a power play. Turning our dial to the opposite side of the spectrum: white trouser suits, cropped jackets, and sporty looks displayed white in the most refreshing way. White is often tailored and polished, but the runways displayed a flowy carefree rendition that really caught my eye, as well.
Styles
With so many standout styles to discuss, I’m going to get straight to the point. Bring out the y2k trends from spring 2021 because they’re back, baby. Cue the mini skirts, low-rise pants, tops cropped to near-nothingness, and so much more. Add in the colors and fabrics set for spring, and you’ve got yourself a complete look. For spring, the fewer clothes the better, barely-there is very much here. Notably, dresses that could pass as very light coverups for the pool (if practically naked in public isn’t your thing), and cutouts galore that show some leg, midriff, and shoulder for a very sexy end result.
The options are endless for a fashion-forward spring wardrobe, so eat your heart out and enjoy the bright colors, the shiny fabrics, and the drool-worthy styles that spring 2022 will be serving up. In a comment below, leave your opinion on the switch from neutrals to colors that we’re seeing.
