The size guide below is based on the suggested design & wearing ease for this style. You can choose the size according to your desired finished garment measurements, blending between sizes as needed. Measure the printed patterns to make sure the dimensions are according to the desired fitting and adjust—if needed—before cutting the fabric. For best results, sew a test garment in a similar fabric to adjust your pattern.
Note: * Designed for four-way stretch fabrics (with at least 50% stretch both ways). Size guide is based on the suggested design and wearing ease for this style. There is negative ease due to the stretch of the fabric. You can also choose the size according to your desired finished garment measurements, blending between sizes as needed. For best results, sew a test garment in a similar fabric to adjust your pattern.
How To Sew The Oahu Swim Suit
The instructions provided are designed to guide you through sewing the main fabric and the lining fabric for the Oahu Swim Suit simultaneously.
Sew with 3/8″ seam allowance for all seams unless otherwise specified.
Change your machine settings to a stretch stitch & sew with either a jersey needle, stretch needle, or a ballpoint needle.
Step 1
SHOULDER SEAMS
Sew the front and back together at the shoulder seams.
(Repeat this step for the lining)
Step 2
SIDE SEAMS
Sew the front and back together at the side seams.
(Repeat this step for the lining)
Step 3
INSEAM
Sew the front and back together at the inseam.
(Repeat this step for the lining)
Step 4
JOIN NECKLINES
Join the main fabric and the lining together at the neckline.
- Place the main fabric inside the lining fabric with right sides together.
- Sew both fabrics together all around the front and back of the neckline.
Step 5
UNDER STITCH
Under stitch around the neckline by sewing the seam allowance to the lining fabric.
(Top stitch at the end if needed)
Step 6
ELASTIC
Sew the elastic around both arm holes and both leg holes.
(Finish the edges with an overlock stitch)
Step 7
HEM
Use a twin needle to sew 1/4″ hem on each arm and each leg.
Step 8
BELT
Join the front and back of the belt pieces together.
- Leave the ends open.
- Sew the top and bottom of the belt pieces together.
- Use the openings to turn the belt right side out.
- Press the edges flat.
Step 9
BELT RING
Finish the ends of the belt with the metal ring.
- Insert the ends through each side of the ring.
- Tuck in the edges similar to a double-folded hem.
- Use a zipper foot to sew as close to the ring as possible.
Step 10
ATTACH BELT
Sew the belt to the swim suit.
- Place the belt around the waist of the swim suit.
- Align the metal ring with center front.
- Sew the belt down the side seams to keep it in place
