Say hello to easy relaxation with The Palermo Pajamas, a dreamy two-piece loungewear set designed with effortless flair. This free sewing pattern includes a loose-fitting button-up shirt with thoughtful details like a crisp collar, a practical front pocket, and piping accents for a polished finish. The relaxed-fit pants are designed with an elastic waistband and matching piping to complete the look while ensuring all-day comfort. The Palermo Pajamas are soft, stylish, and perfect for unwinding at home!
Stretch ITY jersey brings this design to life by offering unparalleled softness, breathability, and elasticity for unrestricted movement. Its smooth texture drapes beautifully, giving the pajamas a luxurious yet casual feel. The 75% widthwise stretch ensures ultimate flexibility and ease of movement, making it a great choice for lounging. The fabric’s durability means these pajamas can handle frequent washes without losing their shape or softness. If you’re looking for other fabric options, lightweight cotton jersey offers a breezy, natural alternative, while fabrics like silk provide a luxurious feel for those restful nights.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced sewist, sewing the Palermo Pajamas is an enjoyable sewing experience. Use a ballpoint needle (size 75/11 or 80/12) with polyester all-purpose thread to achieve smooth, even seams on a stretchy fabric. A walking foot or stretch stitch can help manage the stretch and ensure precision to prevent puckering. When working with piping, take your time to align the details perfectly, using a zipper foot to create a professional finish that elevates the look of any garment.
For cozy mornings, pair this pajama set with a fluffy robe and slippers to enjoy your coffee in comfort. When winding down after a long day, they’re perfect for relaxing with a book or binge-watching your favorite shows. The shirt can even double as a casual top, styled with jeans or leggings for a chic, laid-back outfit. Choose your favorite color or your preferred print to personalize this look and enjoy the satisfaction of creating a staple loungewear set that’s as practical as it is elegant. Whether you’re treating yourself to a relaxing sewing project or crafting a thoughtful handmade gift, the Palermo Pajamas are ideal for wearing all year-round!

Find Your Perfect Fit
The Palermo Pajamas are a loose fitted set; the size guide below is based on the suggested design & wearing ease for this style. You can choose the size according to your desired finished garment measurements, blending between sizes as needed. And/or measure the printed patterns to make sure the dimensions are according to the desired fitting and adjust—if needed—before cutting the fabric. For best results, sew a test garment in a similar fabric to adjust your pattern.
How To Sew The Palermo Pajamas
Sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance for all seams unless otherwise specified.
Finish all seams and edges with a serger or zig-zag stitch.
Step 1

Create the Front Pocket by joining the Pocket Top to the Pocket pattern, sewing them together with piping in between the seam allowance.
Top stitch across the bottom of the piping to make the pocket lay flat.
Step 2
TOP STITCH THE POCKET
Press 1/2″ seam allowance around all the edges.
Sew the pocket onto the front of the shirt by top stitching around the edges, leaving the top open.
Use a Jean-A-Ma-Jig when sewing over the piping to help the presser foot go over bulky areas without skipping a stitch.

Interface the Front Facing.
Sew the Front Facing to the Front with piping in between, going up to the collar end notch.
Repeat this step to both sides of the Front.

Just the pattern I’ve been looking for!
I’m, so looking forward to sewing this 😀
I’m thinking of making my set in a cozy flannel I’ve been keeping for such an occasion, but which sadly does not stretch at all – would you recommend shifting size in any way or should I just forge ahead without a care in the world?
Thanks for putting out all these awesome patterns for us!

Hey there, we are so happy you found your *pattern match*! The Palermo Pajamas is adaptable for any fabric suitable for pajamas, meaning the fabric doesn’t need to have stretch since the pattern has enough built-in ease. Go ahead and choose your size according to the finished garment measurements, while considering the body measurements, as the difference between those two measurements is the amount of built-in ease per size. We love posting new patterns! Happy Sewing 🙂
