I love a good polka dot and the navy-white combo gets me everytime. I was so excited to see Mood Fabrics’ Navy-White Polka Dot Stretch Twill on their website. If navy-white isn’t your go-to colorway, don’t worry there is white/black and green/white and black/white options.
I went with Simplicity 8890, for a short trench with this polka dot. It just seemed like a fun combination, a trendy jacket with a fun print.
This polka dot fabric sewed so beautifully and I love how the jacket turned out. I used a bit of petersham ribbon to trim out the trench portion of the jacket, I just wanted to define that element.
Also, I used some gingham from stash to line the flaps.
One thing about this fabric, it is printed on and I knew I wanted the cuffs to turn up. A simple four inch facing, using the bottom of the sleeve pattern was used to line the sleeve and now I have a cute cuffed sleeve.
The epaulets are always one of my favorite details on a trench, plus this pattern has the cute belt loop details.
I made a size 12, added one inch to the body and two inches to the sleeves. The jacket fits great and the stretch cotton twill makes it quite comfortable. Go check out this great stretch twill and see what you can create today
