Ruffles and Stripes were big trends on the Spring / Summer 2016 runways. High-end designers such as Chanel and Alexander McQueen used ruffles creatively and distinctively as feminine body armor. While designers such as Céline, Dolce & Gabana, Stella McCartney, and DKNY used stripes to draw attention to toned feminine curves with the utmost sophistication.
Mood Fabrics has some fine fabrics that you can use to follow these trends. Why not get your creative juices flowing and replicate some of the hottest ruffles and stripes seen on the runways now that Spring is officially here? These styles inspire us to recommend to you plenty of fabric ideas that will help you ride out Spring like a lion, especially since mother nature sent our New York Spring in like a lamb.
Feminine Flirty and Frock-worthy Ruffles
My favorite ruffle designs were seen on the Spring 2016 runways of fashion designers’ Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, and Mary Katrantzou. Ruffles were used on light and airy silk fabrics with prints and stripes at Chanel and on nude and neutral colored transparent and sheer fabrics at McQueen. Roberto Cavalli took ruffles to a casual dimension with dye-printed taffeta for super-dramatic mini-skirts and pretty blouses paired with denim and leather. Mary Katrantzou’s style was ultra-feminine with a cool twist, utilizing light and airy prints as well as solid crepe wool and quilted satin fabrics.

Sexy, Seductive, and Sophisticated Stripes
My favorite stripe designs were seen on the Spring 2016 runways of Celine, Dolce and Gabbana, DKNY, Stella McCartney, and Tommy Hilfiger. All of these designers made the use of traditional stripes less conservative. In particular, Tommy Hilfiger remixed his conservative vibe with reggae gold style by using knit stripes in bold colors. Below you’ll find them paired with the best fabric choices from moodfabrics.com to help you recreate those looks with your own personal style.
