How to Sew The Bee Tank Top Free Sewing Pattern:
Please note: The Bee Tank Top Free Sewing Pattern includes ⅜” seam allowances.
Step 1
Cut front on the fold, and back cut 2. Pin right sides together of center back and sew using a stretch stitch of choice. In this case, I used a lightning stitch. You can also use a serger or zigzag stitch.
Step 2
For the shoulders, pin low point shoulder to low point shoulder matching right sides of fabric, and repeat same for high point shoulder (the area where shoulder meets neck/collar). Pin in between and sew, repeat for the opposite side.
Step 3
Close up the side seams, once you have completed shoulders and sides – try it on. This would be your best opportunity to make any fit adjustments.
If you want to shorten, mark the same distance from the hem edge using a ruler and tailor’s chalk. Then crop, and close bottom edges of side seams again.
Step 4
This bamboo jersey is not susceptible to fraying very easily because the knit is so tight. If you do not own a serger, use a zigzag stitch to clean-fiinish the raw edges, because as you wash and wear this garment, the seam allowances will start to curl rather than unravel.
Step 5
For the collar edge, fold over and stitch using thread to match and join in the seam allowance. This will force the roll of the collar in place.
Do not top stitch this area, if you prefer to clean finish , at most add a zigzag stitch to the raw edge or it will restrict the fold of this style neckline.
Step 6
Taking a Twin Needle, turn up the desired hem amount (the pattern is drafted for ⅜” but you can turn up about ½” maximum without compromising the stretch along the bottom edge). Thread your machine with two spools of thread, the same way you would with one spool, then thread either needle, making sure the threads do not twist or this will compromise your tension. The presser foot on the machine should be letter ‘A’ or your standard foot used for regular stitch setting or zigzag.
Step 7
Repeat these steps for the armholes to complete The Bee Tank Top!

Instructions call for a 24″ invisible zipper. This must be a typo. Should it be a 7″or 9″ zipper?
Hello, you will need to trim the 24″ zipper for this pattern.
Can you please let us know how much we should expect to trim off, or how long the zipper should extend from the waist on the fitted garment? For me, the zipper would start at the knees–something I haven’t run into, so it would be amazing if you can confirm. Thanks!
This sample was made in a size 4 and the zipper goes down 7 1/2 inches from the waist.
I love that the set comes as two separate downloads! I’m only planning on making the Bee tank top and was glad to not have to print out the jeans pattern as well.
Fabulous look! Great designs! Thank you!
Why is the front pattern piece longer than the back? Also, the finished measurements for the hips don’t make sense.
The front is designed to be longer than the back to accommodate the bust measurement, creating a subtle cowl effect at the neckline. The third measurement in the chart is meant to indicate the length. Thank you for your feedback—the pattern has been updated accordingly!
I love the look of this but following my size resulted in a tank with enormous arm holes! So much gaping. Even sizing down the arms are massive, am I doing something wrong? Do you have any advice?
This pattern features low armholes. If adjustments are needed, we recommend modifying the patterns. For sizes XXS to M, an addition of 1 to 1.5 inches to the bottom of the armhole should suffice, while sizes L and larger may require up to 2 inches.
I’ll have to figure out how to install front pockets in the jeans… but other than that, they look like a fun project!
Hello, you can follow the directions on The Liv Pants to install front pockets to The Honey Jeans
I’m really excited to start the Bee tank top but as I cut out the pattern I realize it’s mini dress length on me. Do you suggest that I wait until the step where it indicates hemming for length, or does it make more sense for me to alter the paper pattern by realigning along the grainline before cutting the fabric? I don’t want to ruin the fit, seeing as I need to take off several inches.
Hello, you can wait until the step to hem the bottom. Try on the top and measure how much you would like to trim according to the fit. Make sure to include the seam allowance for the hem.
Thank you, I followed your advice and you were definitely right. The difference between the cut pattern and finished project length is substantial, and as a very petite person I didn’t need to cut at all (though I would if I were making a cropped tank).
bee tank top is amazing! I actually cut the back on fold, so i dont have a seam in the middle of the back and it still looks great! Awesome design, so easy to do and amazing instructions! Love this, will make moooore
That’s great to know! I want to make another and was wondering if there was any reason not to cut it on the fold.
Hello, you can also make this pattern by cutting the back on fold
Hi,
I’m going to make the honey jeans to use up scraps. Is the rise above or at the hips? I can’t quite tell from the pictures.
Thanks
Hello, the rise for the honey jeans is at the hips.
For the bee tank shoulders they seem to have different lengths (front is longer than the back). Is this intentional to give it the draping effect, and if so any tips on pinning/sewing this, or is this an error in my pattern making?
Hi there, great question! Yes, the shoulder lengths were intentionally different in order to give a subtle ruched effect. The shorter shoulder needs to be stretched to match the larger shoulder. Thank you for your question, happy sewing! 🙂
Can I use linen for the pants or it that not recommended?
Yes, you are also able to use linen for this pattern.
