Powerful, sexy, and confident are just a few words to express how I feel in this suit! As you know, there are two amazing versions of the Ercilla Suit and a Redux that are absolutely stunning. When I had the opportunity to make the Ercilla, it was re-imagined with bold colorful prints and patterns; perfect for waxed cotton African prints! With the use of grosgrain trim as a contrasting design feature, this statement suit is an entire mood! Slight alterations include a cropped pant, high waist, and shortened sleeve – just in time for Spring! Try one of Mood Fabrics cotton sateens in a geometric print as another great option; just be sure to get the most out of your suit by mixing and matching it with your jeans, graphic tees, skirts and more!

Fabrics & materials used:
- 6 yards Pink /Orange Waxed Cotton African Print Stripes/Circles
- 6 yards Brown/Orange/Beige Striped Grosgrain Ribbon
- 1 yard Black Water Jet Loom Interlining
- 2 yards Lustro Navy Twill Bemberg Lining
- 2 Spools Dark Blue 100m Gutermann Sew All Thread
- MDF105 – The Ercilla Suit Pattern (free download below!)
All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless otherwise stated. See chart below for sizing specifications. Note, this specific pattern is available up to a size 30.

I extended the height of my waistband by 2″. The grosgrain ribbon trim was used to create the textile. Simply sewing 3 strips of trim together worked perfectly. I did this for the front and back, cutting 2 pieces as I would with any other fabric. I used interfacing for stability and finished the inside with my lining.

The sleeves were shortened by 4″. Grosgrain ribbon was used for the cuffs and the pockets wells.

The pant legs were cropped 6″ before adding the grosgrain ribbon trim to the bottom edge.

I’m more than pleased with the way my version of the Ercilla Suit turned out! The fit is perfect and I can’t wait to mix and match these pieces to create new looks. Let us know how you plan to wear yours!

Beautiful outfit! Love the fabric and adding the grosgrain ribbon is genius! Thanks for the tip!
Thank you, Julie! I’m so glad you like it! Happy sewing!
I LOVE IT!!
Thanks Jeanette! So glad you like it!
Well, I don’t like the fact that I download your instructions in word and save them along with the PDF download for the pattern. The Word version is insufficient for many of your patterns and it disappears. You have to be online to read the instructions and look at the photos. I don’t sew while I’m online. They are temporary files, but they should save like any other word document, so I can read it at my convenience. Your instructions are insufficient . Time waster, downloading the instruction. And you keep removing my comments because it is negative, but honest.
Hello! We’re sorry that you were having difficulty with the instructions. In order to keep our sewing patterns totally free, we do not currently provide downloadable instructions. You can, however, copy and paste into a word processing program for offline use, or you can print the instructions. If detailed downloadable instructions are what you’re after, I suggest you buy a pattern to suit your needs and skill level. Our free patterns are used as a resource for learning, and although our instructions aren’t always the most detailed, we are always happy to answer specific questions!
I also want to add that your previous comments were not deleted, merely waiting to be approved over the weekend. However, I will be deleting them as all the points mentioned here are repeated in the previous comments. We take feedback seriously and are listening! Keep an eye out for some exciting pattern related things on the horizon. 🙂
