Sometimes when I’m planning out a new project I need to remind myself that not everything needs to be a statement piece. And believe me, I love a statement piece. For this shirt though, I wanted something both easy to sew and simple to work into a plethora of outfits. And how can you go wrong with a basic mock neck? The Felicia Sweater can be made from a number of Mood’s stunning fabrics, but for an extra comfy touch, I strongly recommend their bamboo knits and their rayon rib knits. Absolutely exquisite.

Fabrics & materials used:
- 2 yards Black 4×2 Rayon Rib Knit
- MDF019 – The Felicia Sweater Sewing Pattern (free download below!)
Pattern includes a 1/2″ seam allowance unless otherwise stated.
First, sew the front and back of your sweater together at the shoulders. A serger would be ideal for something super stretchy like this rib knit I used, but I went with a basic zig-zag on my Mood brand machine and had no hassles!
Next, attach your sleeves, making sure to match up your notches. The small notches should match in the front, and the longer ones go toward the back of the garment.
Sew up the sides of your sweater and the seam of your sleeves. You now mostly have a shirt! You can try it on at this step and see if you’d like to adjust the fit at all. I kept mine on the looser side, so I finished my sleeves and hem with a simple straight stitch, but you should definitely go with a zig-zag option if you’re choosing to make your shirt more fitted.
Lastly, take the rectangle piece for the collar and fold it in half, matching up the short ends with the right sides together. Stitch along the short edge, creating the back seam of your collar.
Fold the collar in half along the length so the seam allowance is inside, match the seam with the center back of your sweater and attach the collar to the neckline of your garment. Here, definitely go with a zig-zag stitch, and I also recommend using French seams to avoid have any loose threads hit your neck while you wear your new sweater!
I love the subtle detail that the ribbing brings to the garment. Mood’s new rayon rib knits are definitely a favorite for this project, but be warned that they are a little on the thinner side.
