How To Sew The Newport Tie Back Dress Free Sewing Pattern:
*Use a 1/2″ seam allowance for all seams unless otherwise specified.
Step one – Pin your front and back skirt pieces together, then sew at your side seams. After that, take it to the ironing board and press the seams open.
Step two – Now we’re going to take our skirt hem piece, pin the sides together, and sew. Then, take it to the ironing board and press the seams open.
Step three – Pin the skirt hem piece to the bottom of your skirt and sew around the bottom. After, take it to the ironing board and press the seam open.
Next, we’re going to hem our skirt! For this you’re going to want to do a double folded hem. To do this, you’re going to fold up ¼ inch and fold once again ¼ inch. That way it’s clean finished on the outside and inside!
Step four – Pin your front bodice to the front of your skirt, right sides together, and sew. Then, take it to the ironing board and press the seam open.
Step five – Pin your halter strap pieces and lining, right sides together, and sew. Then, take it to the ironing board and press.
Step six – Pin your halter strap to your front bodice, right sides together, starting at the side seam and sew. After that, take it to the ironing board and press the seams open.
Step seven – Pin your back tie piece and its lining together, then sew all around making sure to drop your needle and pivot your fabric in order to get a nice, crisp corner. After, take it to the ironing board and press the seam open.
Step eight – Match up your back ties to the side seam of your front bodice and sew. Then, take it to the ironing board and press.
Step nine – Now we’re going to make the casing for our elastic waistband. To do this, fold down your seam allowance to half an inch, then edge stitch to create a tunnel so that you can feed your elastic through.
Step ten – Lastly, we’re going to hem our side cut outs. To do this, you’re going to fold up ¼ inch, then fold once again ¼ inch to do a double folded hem.

Hi! I think I will make it long. 🙂 Thank you! I love the idea!
Thanks for the pattern! Is it possible to swap out the elastic waistband with darts + a side zipper or will that drastically compromise the construction of the dress?
Hello, I believe you can also make that work. Happy sewing!
