The Rowan Dress - Free Sewing Pattern

Mood is stepping up their game with all of these fantastic exclusive collections and as both a vintage fashion lover and complete nerd, this new comic-inspired line had me drooling. The Rowan Dress pairs perfectly with its pop-art vibe, featuring a center back zip and a mod 60's silhouette. While I went with a cute and fun printed stretch sateen, I could easily see this made with a stretch twill or solid ponte for a more sophisticated look.

All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless otherwise stated. See chart below for sizing specifications. Note, this specific pattern is available up to a size 30.

Begin by dd your darts to your front and back panels. The front has bust and waist darts, like you can see above, and the back of your dress will have just waist darts. Repeat with your lining fabric.

Connect the front panels of your dress by adding your center front stripe down the center. Press your seam allowances toward the darker fabric used.

Add the collar along the front of your dress, notch your seam allowances and press, like you see below. This will ensure that your dress and seams lay nice and flat.

Next, add the collar pieces to the back panels of your dress, and repeat the above step with the seam allowances.

Attach the front and back of your dress at the shoulders and sides. Use this moment to fit your dress and increase any waist darts if need be. Repeat with your lining.

Using an invisible zipper foot on your machine, insert your invisible zipper along the center back of your dress, starting about 1/2" from the top of the collar.

Add the hem stripe to the bottom of your dress, like you see above.

At the neckline of your dress, sew your lining and dress with the fabric faces together. Notch the seam allowance, turn right side out, and press.

Folding the raw edges of your armholes inward, stitch down with your machine or slip-stitch by hand. Fold the hem stripe upward and sew to the face of your lining. Slip-stitch the last few inches.

Lastly, fold the raw edges of your lining inward along the back zipper and slip-stitch into place. Press the seams of your new garment and you're downright ready to do the Twist!

I love the contrast between this print and the bold, solid stripe, but I'm curious how you'd design your garment! Let me know in the comments which fabrics you'll be using!
