Alternative Recommended Fabrics:
All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless otherwise stated. See chart below for sizing specifications. Note, this specific pattern is available up to a size 30.

Here’s how I altered the original Tansy Trench pattern:
- Changed the sleeve to a basic sleeve without the pleating at the cap
- Added a raingaurd to the front bodice
- Shortened the width of the lapels
- Made side inseam pockets
- Altered belt into a sash belt

Trim down the front lapel for a more classic look. Once you close the shoulder dart, you can draft your front rain guard as shown in the pattern diagram.
Use the length of the back bodice rain guard as a guide for the length of the front rain guard.
The lining sleeve pattern will be used as the main sleeve pattern. Split the sleeve in two seperate pieces. Make sure to add the seam allowance to each piece.

Use your grommet kit to add the grommets along the edge of the rainguard and sleeves.
Rainguard: Sew together the rainguard front and back bodice pieces and set aside. Now, sew together the coat as the original pattern instructs. Before adding the sleeves and collar, pin the rainguard to the coat and baste stitch around the neck and armholes.Attach your sleeves and collar.
Fringe: Use your clear quilting ruler and mark on the backside of your fabric, 1/2″ x 60″ long strips. Use the rotary cutter to make long even slits. Fold each strip of fringe in half. Take the loop end of the fringe and pull it through the grommet. Now pull the two loose ends through the same loop and pull until it’s tied securely.

Complete your coat by sewing on your buttonholes and buttons.
Tie your sash belt around the waist and that’s it! You’re done! Let us know how you plan to wear your awesome Tansy Trench Redux!
