Mood has just released a new exclusive print collection and it’s by far my most favorite to date! As if physically manifesting the essence of an internationally recognized African ethnic group, the Mood Exclusive Tumunyana Collection immortalizes the ethos, the energy, and the ecosystem of which they play a part. Pulling from the boundless vitality that Mother Nature chooses to imbue its people with, this collection pays homage to the deeply rooted traditions, values, and beliefs that are invariably ingrained in the pastoralist lifestyle the Maasai people live.
Mood branched out with their fabric types this time around and the new collection features more than just cotton prints, expanding to viscose batiste and linen rayon blends that are simply luscious. I took a few of these new prints and transformed them into a few of my favorite free sewing patterns for a mini summertime collection that I simply adore!

The Empress Dress

The Empress silhouette is where modesty and sexy meet. This long sleeve micro mini will give you the confidence to step into any space and own it! The pattern pieces are fairly simple, making it a great option for panel prints. It was fun to play around with the lines on this batiste panel and I can’t wait to make a scarf or headwrap with the remaining scraps (or these days, maybe a matching face mask)!

The Fern Jumpsuit

The Fern Jumpsuit is the epitome of comfort chic, which is increasing in popularity with so many current stay-at-home orders. This jumpsuit is loose and breathable, so it slips right on with ease and tightens at the waist with a belt. Vertical stripes are a classic summer staple and lend themselves well to a pattern like this, but you can also try a large-scale floral print or a vibrant solid like the original!

The Cress Skirt

The Cress Skirt is a universally flattering silhouette and an easy sew for all skill levels. While it takes a bit of fabric, that’s all you need aside from thread! There are no finicky closures or zippers to worry about, just sew, wrap, and look fabulous! I’ve made this one with a linen rayon blend that brings the lovely Resort vibe of linen without all the tricky wrinkling.

With so many vibrant summer prints in this collection, it’s was difficult to pick just three garments to make! I’d love to keep going with a simple Vallea Tunic or mix and match some designs and grounds for a new Heather Dress!

Do you recommend to do the Empress Dress with satin also?
Hi Nili! As long as it’s a lighter weight satin and not too stiff, it can definitely work as well.
Thank you so much for such beautiful patterns
I really appreciate your patterns.
