Our original Winterberry Cape featured an ankle-length silhouette, perfect for a dramatic look, but we’re re-releasing this free sewing pattern with a few different length options! This new version features optional cut lines for a hem length of about 26″, 38″, and 48″. Since the sewing instructions remain the same as the original pattern regardless of the length you choose, let’s use the remainder of this post to take a look at how we’re seeing capes on the runway this season!

Fabrics

The types of fabrics for capes this year are coming in multiple versions. The most common fabrics we’re seeing on the runway are wool, wool blends, knitwear, patchwork, and heavy woven fabrics. Most of the capes you will see will be made out of a heavy wool to keep you warm for the winter.

Trending Colors

For colors this year, we have a wide selection to choose from. There is a large mix of vibrant shades, jewel tones, and a lot of printed patterns. Jewel colors for this year are brown, navy, rust orange, olive, and fall red. Vibrant colors for this year include bright pink, pale pink, primary blue, and yellow.

Styles

The styles vary between the wearer, but what is being seen a lot on the runways are long or mid-length capes. The most popular capes are the ones with open armhole slits, thus making them more versatile for everyday wear!
