How often do you sit at your sewing desk and find yourself itching to complete a project before you stand up again? For those Sunday afternoons when you’re feeling extra creative and can’t wait to add a new garment to your wardrobe, try out The Vinca Dress sewing pattern! Follow our lead by using a soft ponte for a look that’s equal parts comfy and chic, or go a step further and be a bit more daring with a dash of something metallic, maybe even opt for a hearty helping of stretch faux leather – anything to make these zippers pop! Not a fan of the bodycon silhouette? Forgo the zippers and make some noise with Mood’s fringe sequin fabrics.

Purchase Materials Used Below:
- 2 yards Brite Royal Blue Stretch Nylon-Rayon Ponte Roma
- 3 12″ Navy Zippers
- MDF142 – The Vinca Dress Sewing Pattern (free download below!)
All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless otherwise stated. See chart below for sizing specifications. Note, this specific pattern is available up to a size 30.

First, follow the guidelines on your pattern piece to sew your darts on the front bust of your dress. With the fabric faces together, sew the front and back of your dress together at the shoulder and side seams using a serger or stretch stitch.

Next, sew the inseam of you sleeve and then set it into the armscye of your dress. Be sure to match the guidelines from the pattern on your sleeve to the guidelines and seams of your dress.

Hem the edge of your sleeve and bottom edge of your dress with a small rolled hem and another stretch stitch.

Lastly, try on your dress and pin your zippers or desired trim along the lines noted on your pattern. Be sure to double check that you can still slide the dress on and off with the zippers pinned into place as you may lose a bit of stretch. If needed, add an invisible zip to the opposite side of your dress to open when putting on or removing your dress.

How will you be designing your Vinca Dress? I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Tell me your ideas in the comments, and be sure to tag #MadeWithMood for a chance to be featured!

If I wanted to use a cotton fabric with zero stretch, what adjustments would I need to make to the pattern?
Hi there! You may want to size up and add a side zipper under the arm, but I’d recommend trying it out with muslin first to test the fit. 🙂
Will do! Thank you so much!
Is the seam allowance included? Or do I need to add 1/2 inch before cutting it out?
Hi, Erica! A 1/2″ seam allowance is already included. 🙂
I was wondering if this would be easy enough for a first-time garment maker? If not, what pattern would you recommend?
Hi Amelia! This pattern is fairly simple and easy to sew – the only tricky bit may be working with a stretch fabric. Be sure to use lots of pins, a ballpoint needle, and I recommend a walking foot for your machine. 🙂
Bonjour, pensez vous que cela est possible de faire cette robe sans les fermetures éclaires ?
Oui!
Amazing, I loved it
Thank you for this pattern. I left the zips off and added length to make a sparkling navy blue, full length evening dress, with a high slit on 1 side. Turned out to be a show stopper! Wish I could upload a pic for you.
I really do appreciate all your work that goes into delivering free patterns. Thank you very much.
