As the world continues to reach for the better days, nostalgia covered the runways for fall fashion and managed to nail the consumer’s shift when purchasing. The fabrics of the upcoming season focus on quality fabrics that embrace a vintage and slow fashion feel. The top 5 fabrics for fall offer daily wear and more glamorous options, so stay tuned to find out what they are.
Leather
As a fall staple for many, leather fabric comes as no surprise. For this season, we will be seeing soft leather fabrics put together in combination with saturated or pastel tones and soft finishes. The resilient nature of the soft and shiny leather makes it optimal for making trousers, blouses, blazers, dresses, and outerwear— which is the whole lot—for a futuristic finish. Expect to see exotic reptile-like leather prints continue to cycle through wardrobes.

Wool
As an insulator, wool is a longstanding fabric worn during colder weather that works to keep its wearer comfortable in colder temperatures. Popular wool for this season is tweed and houndstooth varieties. The weight is leaning more towards a lighter side, but medium to heavyweight is still in full effect. Neutral fall colors continue accompanied by more colorful varieties and colorways. Wool outerwear is a classic among miniskirts and skirt sets.

Corduroy
With a very 70s vibe, corduroy is a go-to for fall fabrics with a soft, textured feel and excellent insulation to keep you warm in cooler temperatures. Finding a flattering fit with corduroy isn’t difficult, and with the rising fascination of styles from the past, the original 70’s style of corduroy is sure to keep its momentum. Corduroy is classically found in saturated hues, and those are the current colors of fall, so it seems like the stars are all aligning. Flared corded trousers aren’t your thing? There’s plenty more where that came from, including corduroy suits, skirts, and dresses that are dripping in retro vibes with a modern touch.

Organic Cotton
With all of the talk about sustainability, it’s important to highlight those designers like Mara Hoffman and Stella Mccartney (among others) that are taking the necessary steps to create sustainable fashion. Both have been or have started using organic fabrics such as linen and cotton in their collections. Organic cotton is a versatile fabric that’s a staple throughout the entire year, but it’s nice to know that through the use of organic cotton it can be worn without as much guilt.

Silk
Channel the roaring 20s with the flapper style slip gowns and the irresistibly smooth feel of silk or other lustrous fabrics. This silky fabric adds a bit of chic elegance to any look. From lace details to suiting or lustrous accents, this trend is one of the most wearable fabrics, and it is easy to incorporate into looks whether the occasion is casual or more upscale.

The hot weather is nice for a while, but I always welcome the cooler weather with open arms because it’s such a fun time for layering and experimenting with fabrics that are a little more structured and warm or more slinky and slippery. This fall is going to be chock full of fun fabrics that work for any lifestyle and occasion.
